at times patients require customized prescriptions to meet
their needs

Help?
- Is the medication only
available in a certain dosage forms or strengths?
- Is the drug no longer
available on the market?
- Does the medicine
taste bad?
- Are you diabetic and
need sugar-free preparations?
If
you answered yes to any of these examples,
Medical Center Pharmacy
can help. We
understand that no two people are alike and we can customize
your drug therapy to meet your needs.
What Does
Compounding Mean?
There are
several reasons why pharmacists compound
prescription
medications; yet, the most important one is patient
non-compliance. Many patients are allergic to preservatives
or dyes, or are sensitive to standard drug strengths. With a
physician's prescription, a compounding pharmacist can
change the strength of a medication, alter its form to make
it easier for the patient to ingest, and add flavor to it to
make it more palatable. The pharmacist also can prepare the
medication using several unique delivery systems, such as a
sublingual troche or lozenge, a lollipop, or a transdermal
gel. For those patient with difficulty swallowing capsules,
a compounding pharmacist can make a suspension instead.
Medical Center Pharmacy compounds specialized medications to
meet specific patient needs.
The pharmacists and
technicians at
Medical Center
Pharmacy pride themselves on creating
innovative solutions to meet the individual patient needs in
drug delivery systems and dosage forms.
