FAQ

How are you different than a "regular" pharmacy?

Like regular pharmacies, we too dispense medications that have been mass produced, but what sets us apart is our compounding facility. We have the capabilities of preparing compounded medications to meet individual patient's needs.

Each compounded prescription that we dispense is prepared in our compounding lab or sterile clean room. We use state of the art equipment and conduct research on formulas, ingredients and drug therapies to ensure the best medication is provided to you. Just consider us your problem solving pharmacy.

What is Compounding?

Pharmacy compounding is the ageless art and science of preparing customized medications to meet the specific patient's needs. Compounding combines innovative techniques, research and state-of-the-art technology, allowing specially trained professionals to prepare customized medications just for you.

Historically, compounding was the customary means of providing prescription medications before pharmaceutical manufacturers began producing drugs in mass quantities. Today, as prescribers and patients realize the limited number of strengths and dosage forms available on the market, the demand for professional compounding has increased.

With a physician's written prescription or consent, a compounding pharmacist can customize your medication just for you!

How does compounding benefit me?

We understand that our patients are unique individuals. Most commercially available medications cater to the masses, but at times patients require customized prescriptions to meet their needs.

• Is it hard for you or your child to swallow a tablet?
• Is your medication on back order or no longer available on the market?
• Does the medicine taste bad?
• Do you have special restrictions and need sugar-free or gluten-free, for example?

If you answered yes to any of these examples, Medical Center Pharmacy can help.

Whatever the need, compounding can provide a customized alternative to medications that are not available at regular pharmacies.

What types of prescriptions can be compounded?

My Canadian Pharmacy can compound many types of medications. Compounded prescriptions are ideal for any patient needing unique dosage forms and/or delivery devices including creams, gels ointments, capsules (immediate release and sustained release), suspensions, sterile injectables, lozenges, suppositories, lollipops, oral rinses and others.

Some of our compounding specialties include: Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Pain Management, Veterinary, Pediatric, Ophthalmalogy, Dental, Dermatology, Men's Health, OB/GYN, Urology, Podiatry and Gastroenterology.

Medications can also be compounded to exclude excipients such as sugar, dyes, lactose, or alcohol that may be problem-causing for some.
